Your lighting is why your room does not look expensive.

There are three types of light every room needs. Ambient light - the general overhead light that fills the room. Task light - focused light for specific activities like reading or cooking. Accent light - decorative light that adds depth and drama. Most Nigerian homes only have one. That is the problem.

Overhead lighting alone makes a room look flat. If the only light source is the bulb in the ceiling, the room will never feel luxurious no matter how beautiful the furniture is. Layer your light sources.

Warm bulbs versus cool bulbs. Warm light (2700K to 3000K) makes a space feel intimate and rich. Cool light (4000K and above) feels clinical and harsh in a living space. For bedrooms and living rooms, always choose warm. Cool works in kitchens and bathrooms.
The height of your light source matters. A pendant hung too high loses its intimacy. A floor lamp in the corner of a room adds warmth that no ceiling fixture can replicate. Think about where the light lands, not just where it comes from.
Dimmer switches are one of the cheapest upgrades with the highest return. The ability to control the intensity of light in a room changes how it feels entirely. Install them wherever you can.
Good lighting does not have to be expensive. It has to be intentional. Share this with someone whose home deserves better light.
