WHITE WALLS

White walls are the most forgiving base. The most elevated choices are warm neutrals - cream, linen, dusty beige, or soft terracotta. Avoid bright white curtains on white walls. The room will feel sterile. Go one tone warmer than the wall.

BEIGE OR CREAM WALLS

This is the most common wall colour in Nigerian homes and also the most misused. The mistake people make is hanging white curtains. White reads cold next to beige. Instead go for deep earthy tones - chocolate brown, burnt orange, olive green, or dusty rose. Your room will feel intentional instead of accidental.

GREY WALLS

Grey is cool and modern but it can feel cold without the right curtain. Warm it up with mustard, blush, or camel tones. If you want to stay neutral a warm white or off-white works - but avoid grey on grey unless the shades are very different.

DARK OR CHARCOAL WALLS

Dark walls are dramatic and they need curtains that hold their own. Deep jewel tones work beautifully - navy, forest green, burgundy. You can also go light for contrast - a soft ivory or warm white against a dark wall creates a cinematic effect.
The rule that applies to every wall colour. Your curtain should always be in the same tone family as your wall - either slightly darker, slightly lighter, or a complementary accent. Never fight the wall. The curtain frames the room, it does not compete with it.
